?? IC Information

Character Name: Junia
Age: Unknown. Best guess: 20
Canon: Darkest Dungeon 2
Canon Point: At some point after the Confessions storyline. Junia survived the Body of Work and is now working to help rebuild and protect the kingdom
Character History: The Darkest Dungeon Wiki is MUCH more focused on gameplay strategies than lore, so I summed her backstory up myself on her info post
Canon Abilities: Junia is blessed by the divine power of "The Light", which is worshiped by a church in her world. This gives her various magic powers themed around light and healing. More specifically...
  • Divine Healing: When she focuses on it, Junia can radiate healing light, gradually energizing and healing minor injuries to nearby allies. Or she can focus her power on one person to heal larger injuries or neutralize poisons.
  • Consecration: Junia can create a small zone on the ground that will protect anyone who stands in it, turning aside blows with magic protection.
  • Judgement: She can also channel her power in a more offensive mode, summoning blasts of light and lightning from the sky, or from her hands.
  • Light: Junia projects her light like a spotlight to illuminate things, or she can even just generally glow if she wants to, though not for more than a few minutes at a time.

A lot of her skills in the actual game have lengthy cool downs, and she has a mechanic where she gradually builds up power over time that can be used up by her more powerful skills, so I imagine that in an RP context this would translate to her magic running out of juice if she uses too much of it at once. Especially the healing magic.

Inventory: Clothes (robes, reminiscent of a nun's habit.), armor (pictured here), holy book (Dedicated to The Light, although Junia has been making a LOT of her own edits to it. Ever since her personal revelation, she is convinced that the Church is doing it wrong, and has been working out her own version of the canon. The game goes into NO detail about the specifics of her religion so I will be making things up furiously.), big mace (for hitting things), personal journal (full of her private thoughts, including her EXTENSIVE collection of dirty fantasies about her comrades.).

?? Personality

  1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?

Magic exists in the world of Darkest Dungeon, but it is a rare and unusual thing, spoken of in hushed whispers and rumors. Sorcerers and witches were something that mainly existed as terrifying monsters and villains that populated the more exciting sermons she listened to, not part of her actual life. They were figures from stories and fairy tales, attempting to lure the good and pure hero from the path of righteousness with their foul magic.

Even so, when Junia had a personal divine revelation and gained holy magic of her own, the idea that her power might be something sinful and evil never even occurred to her. She can feel its goodness within her. Now, the Light's power that flows through her soul every second of the day is the most important thing in her life. It's a constant reminder to her that she was right. The Church denounced her, but the Church is an organization run by mortal men who notably AREN'T brimming with magic powers. Their will is nothing compared to the power of the Light. While going through hell on earth and facing all manner of monsters and demons, human or otherwise, having that Light in her corner is what keeps her going.

  2. If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?

Immediate practical concerns like "I wish for the god of madness ripping the world apart to please stop" aside, Junia wishes she could bring back all her sisters from the convent. That they were punished so cruelly for HER transgression is something she feels more than somewhat guilty about. Even if she didn't feel any guilt, though, they still represented all the people she knew growing up. Friends, petty rivals, mentors, crushes, even the vague acquaintances were all gone in one act of insane zealotry. It's left her feeling terribly lonely and isolated. The relationships between the various heroes in the game (including Junia herself) are fraught and full of constant tension, and she just really wishes she could bring back the comforting parts of her old life.

Also, she never got to tell them about her revelation. She spent her life constantly denying herself for fear that the Light would punish her, but it never did. All the rules and punishments were made for humans, by humans. Junia no longer believes that to deny your own impulses is a holy thing, as long as your heart is good. She KNOWS this with a fanatic's conviction, and was excited to run and share it with her sisters, only to find that they had been buried alive in their own dormitories. She never got the chance to see if they would have understood.

  3. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?

Junia grew up with a very active imagination that she had to constantly hold back for fear that her daydreams would be noticed and she would be punished. She's always been wildly curious about the world outside the convent, which she only vaguely remembers from when she was very young. Life in the convent may have been safe, but it was also not particularly stimulating. Plain food, modest clothes, hard work, in bed by sundown, up at sunrise. The closest thing she had ever had to a "party" was when a priest or the mother superior broke out a bit of watered down sacramental wine and let the sisters sing some of the less gloomy hymns.

Her specific transgression was inspired by watching a couple have sex. The convent's sexual education policy was, shall we say, somewhat lacking, but Junia had managed to pick up a thing or two from contraband and furtive and indirect questions posed to the rare visitor. She is dreadfully curious about sex and romance, having never had a chance to explore such matters herself. Growing up in a setting that demanded constant pure hearted devotion to the Light did not leave much room for experimentation or self discovery. She now believes that the abstractly deistic Light couldn't possibly care if she occasionally wanted to kiss (or more than kiss) someone.

So, to loop back around to the original question: To tempt Junia to follow them, all an enterprising siren would have to do is sing a love song. Ideally, an explicitly racy one. Promise her new experiences of ribald excess and Junia will have trouble resisting. It's not that her willpower is lacking, it's just that she REALLY wants to know what there is to experience, now that she's in the wider world. If the siren maybe flaunted a little cleavage or flexed some muscles, that certainly wouldn't hurt their chances either.

  4. What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?

Junia's kindness, her faith, or perhaps her passion would all be stand out traits, but I think the single motivating force that has had the greatest influence on her life has been greed. Or if not greed then perhaps just a feeling of dissatisfaction.

She doesn't want to take from others to enrich herself. She has no desire to horde resources or luxuries. Rather, in a world full of danger, Junia grew up in safety and comfort. She never lacked for food during times of famine. She never feared for her life during times of war. The convent was sacrosanct, and the church took protecting such institutions very seriously. It would have been all too easy for someone in her position to just fall into a comfortable rut for their entire life, satisfied with their lot.

But Junia was unsatisfied. She wanted more from the world. She wanted to experience the wonders that life had to offer beyond the convent's walls and find out about things like love and rich foods and wild parties. She wanted to see everything that life had to offer her. It was this desire for more that tempted her away from her duties. It was this desire that was central to her divine revelation. It was a constant motivation for her in her life after her escape.

Junia has a lot of motivations that keep her moving through life, some quite commendable, but at the core of them all is the simple fact that she had a comfortable life and all she had to do to keep it was keep her head down and accept things as they were, and she couldn't do it. It is not in her nature to accept less when she knows there is more.

?? Fae Court

List your top three choices for your characters adoptive court. The mods will choose the one out of those three options that seems the most fitting based on your app.
  • Summer

  • Winter

  • Dusk

Ability: No, she will retain her canon abilities. I might look into getting more abilities from the fae later on, if possible, but I'd like to play in her canon powerset for a while first.
